A Review of Accident Modelling Approaches for Complex Socio-Technical Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The increasing complexity in highly technological systems such as aviation, maritime, air traffic control, telecommunications, nuclear power plants, space missions, chemical and petroleum industry, and healthcare and patient safety is leading to potentially disastrous failure modes and new kinds of safety issues. Traditional accident modelling approaches are not adequate to analyse accidents that occur in modern sociotechnical systems, where accident causation is not the result of an individual component failure or human error. This paper provides a review of key traditional accident modelling approaches and their limitations, and describes new system-theoretic approaches to the modelling and analysis of accidents in safety-critical systems. This paper also discusses the application of formal methods to accident modelling and organisational theories on safety and accident analysis.

متن کاملA need for new theories, models and approaches to occupational accident prevention?
The paper discusses challenges from a changing working life on occupational accident modelling and asks if ideas from models developed for high-risk, complex socio-technical systems can be transformed and adapted to occupational accident prevention. Are occupational accidents mainly simple component failures or is a systemic approach of some interest and value?
متن کاملThe Application of Systems-Theoretic Accident Model and Process in the Systematic Nonlinear Analysis of Accidents in Car Industry
Background & objectives: Hundreds of methods have been introduced to analyze various events. Hence one of the effective and principle steps in accident analysis is proper and targeted selection of accident analysis method. Traditional methods of accident analysis in complex industries are not comprehensive and examine each components of the system separately. So, the use of new systematic metho...
